Product information

Kermolin is a high-quality weather-resistant casting and modeling compound which, after mixing with water, can be used as a thick paste casting material or, with a reduced water/powder ratio, as a creative modeling compound. Kermolin is used for the production of decorative objects, e.g. lampshades, doll and marionette heads, masks, decorative plates (collages), and in model making in combination with fine wire mesh for the terrain design of model plants. This results in molded parts or model constructions that are extraordinarily strong and dimensionally stable, which is due to the small silane chips (glass fibers) mixed into this material. This results in the great possibility of producing thin-walled molded parts with great stability and low weight that are virtually unbreakable. Another advantage is that Kermolin is thixotropic, i.e. it is drip-proof, so that it can also be used to model objects with vertical surfaces, e.g. vases, bowls and flower pots. The molded parts should have a minimum thickness of 5 - 6 mm and are then almost unbreakable. In addition, the cast or modeled parts can be mechanically finished, e.g. by filing, milling, drilling, sawing and grinding. Eyes and other openings are drilled out or milled out of the self-made masks afterwards. Thus an opening can be worked out, which makes these decorative pieces much more authentic and lively in their effect and expression.

How is Kermolin processed?

Kermolin is added to a mixing cup already filled with a proportion of water and stirred. Allow the viscous slurry to pre-react for 2-3 minutes so that the ceramic components it contains dissolve and a thixotropic (non-dripping) casting compound is formed. The processing time is approx. 40 - 100 minutes. Depending on the layer thickness, Kermolin hardens to rock-hard and dimensionally stable within 120 - 150 minutes.

Product Information

Kermolin is a premium weather-resistant casting and moulding compound that can also be used as modelling clay. It is commonly used to create decorations, lampshades, masks as well as terrain in railroad- and architectural models when combined with wire mesh. As a results, thin objects with very high stability and low weight can be created. The compound does not drip, not even when used in a vertical position (e.g. vases, bowls). When fully dry, the parts can be further processes mechanically (drilled, filed etc.).
