Iron base:

In order to apply an authentic rust effect to a wide variety of items, the parts must first be pretreated with Eisengrund, a base dispersion mixed with fine iron powder. Iron Primer adheres to almost all rough, absorbent surfaces. If smooth, non-absorbent surfaces are also to be coated with it, these must first be coated with Universal-Haftgrund (71 801). This is followed by pre-priming with Iron Primer. This involves applying only a small amount of material to the surface with a soft brush, which dries within a few minutes. About 10 minutes later, the surface is covered again, this time with an evenly thick layer of material, which is done with a brush or, in the case of flat surfaces, also with a wooden spatula.

It is possible to make the surface irregular, for which purpose, for example, the separately available iron powder can also be used. It is sprinkled on the iron base surface, but can also be mixed directly into it.

After solid drying - which takes about 60 - 80 minutes - the surface is coated with an oxidation medium. The oxidation immediately shows a slight brown coloration, which depends on the oxidation medium used. Eight different oxidizing agents are available for this purpose, with which rust effects ranging from an ochre yellow, a rusty to reddish brown, to a rustic dark brown, black and green can be achieved. The final rust effect becomes apparent after approx. 12 hours.
